Genesis 22:16, Genesis 3:18

You can choose your actions, but you cannot choose the consequences or reward of your actions.

In today’s blog post, God wants to teach us the power of decisions and actions in order to help us act in wisdom and good counsel.

A lot of people are blessed, honoured, and in heaven today because of the way they chose to live their lives here on earth.

And others are impoverished, cursed, or in hell today because of the same reason.

The Bible tells us that God has given us life and death and goes on to admonish us to choose life and live.

How we live our lives here on earth is very important because it determines our consequences or reward here on earth.

For example, our Father Abraham, who was blessed by God in every area of life because he feared and trusted the Lord in spite of the circumstances around him.

Abraham chose to act in line with his faith in God and went ahead to obey God’s command to sacrifice the only son born to him by his wife – Sarah.

A son that was an answered prayer and a fulfilment of God’s promise to him.

Abraham could have chosen to ignore the voice of God. He could have hidden from the presence of God like Adam, but he got up early and journeyed with his son to perform the sacrifice in obedience to God’s word.

As a result, God imputed it to him for righteousness and blessed him there. (Genesis 22:16) Today, we call him the father of many nations.

We can also look at the Rechabites, who were obedient to their father’s instructions and refused to take wine even when a prophet directed them to do so.

God was so pleased with their act of obedience and honour to their father’s words and blessed them by saying they would never lack a man-child forever. (Jeremiah 35:6-19)

We also find the likes of Solomon, who offered bountifully to God, touching the heart of God so much so that He visited him in a dream and asked him to make a request. (1 Kings 3:5)

Needless to say, that marked the beginning of Solomon’s greatness, wisdom, and wealth.

Many men have received great promises and blessings because of their actions in the past, and it is the same till today.

Many have also been cursed, slain, and sold into captivity (spiritually and physically) as a result of their actions.

Our first example is Adam and Eve, the first man and woman created by God as recorded in the Bible. They disobeyed God’s express command and paid dearly for it.

They were driven out of the presence of God with curses that served as a deterrent to acting in disobedience to God. (Genesis 3:22-24)

We also see Saul, the first king of Israel, who lost it all to David as a result of acting out of his jurisdiction by offering sacrifice to God in place of the prophet. (1 Samuel 15:23)

As a result of that action, he lost his kingship and died a shameful death.

There are many others in the past and even in recent times whose lives have been ruined because of one careless act of disobedience to God.

God is bringing this message as a result of His love and compassion towards us. He wants us to be careful and prudent in everything we do as Christians in order to avoid consequences and gain rewards.

We must know that everything we do will have an adverse consequence or a reward, so we must think carefully before we make any decision or take action.

The Bible says if we are willing and obedient, we shall reap the good fruit of the land. So we must ensure that God remains at the centre of everything we do and allow Him to guide our paths.

Only then can we truly reap the good fruits of the land and enjoy the benefits of our obedience to God.

Yet to give your life to Christ? Say this prayer and mean it from the depth of your heart:

“Almighty God, I come before you in the name of Jesus. Lord, I confess that I am a sinner and ask for your mercy.”

“I pray that you cancel my name from the book of death and write my name in the book of life. Give me power to sin no more and grace to live a Christian life.”

“I decree that the yoke of sin is broken over my life, and I accept Jesus into my life as Lord and Saviour.”

“I am a child of God.”

Did you say this prayer? Congratulations! Welcome to the family.
