Romans 12:4-8 kjv

In today’s blog post, the Lord seeks to teach us about the various gifts and offices He has given to us.

He seeks to open our eyes to the various roles we have been called to play in the body of Christ and empower us to launch into the deep.

Our text shows us that just like the different body parts have various functions and importance – no one is more important than the other – so are these offices in the body of Christ.

1. THE OFFICE OF THE PROPHET (THE LORD’S ANOINTED):

The first office we will be looking into in today’s blog post is the office of the prophet.

The office of the prophet is one of the most spoken about in the Bible. This office is very crucial to every generation as it is a post that, when filled, brings the counsel of God to the people.

The greatest cause of the destruction of God’s people is the lack of knowledge – the lack of knowledge of God, His ways, counsel, and presence.

The job of a prophet is to make that which is hidden known; to go deeper into the word of God and draw knowledge for the freedom of God’s people.

We can take our example from Moses, who oftentimes went in with God up for dialogue and returned with godly counsel for God’s people.

Moses was the first prophet sent by God, and we see by his dealings with God how important the office of a prophet can be, making it a generational position handed down to people ordained by God.

A prophet is the leader of God’s people – a shepherd and priest. This office remains vital to the body of Christ.

2. THE OFFICE OF MINISTRY (THE MINISTERS OF GOD):

The second office on our list today is the office of the minister. This can also mean the office of a Levite.

A minister’s job is to serve, give oblations, and assist the prophet. This office includes Psalmists, also known as song ministers, word ministers, and prayer ministers.

Each of these ministers carries out their duties by the Spirit of God to bring light and life to God’s people.

3. THE TEACHING MINISTRY:

The teaching ministry is very vital and sensitive to the body of Christ. This office entails the raising and grooming of God’s children (younglings) to maturity.

In the world today, we send our young ones to school for quality education to help them navigate life and purpose; the same applies in the body of Christ.

Every newly converted child of God is a young one who goes through the process of learning the ways of God to equip them to lead a victorious life in Christ.

The teaching priests/ministers are entrusted with this sacred duty of walking them through the ways of God, line upon line, precept upon precept.

The teaching priests are blessed with the grace to dive deeper into the Spirit and bring truth in such a way that the hearer obtains light, wisdom, and understanding of the principles of God’s kingdom.

4. THE OFFICE OF EXHORTATION (FAITH BUILDERS):

The office of one who gives exhortations is very pivotal in the body of Christ. This form of ministry can find expression in the lives of believers who go about encouraging others in the faith.

They ensure that the work of the prophets, ministers, and teachers is watered daily. They are given the burden to ensure that God’s people remain in faith by their works, words, and actions.

5. THE OFFICE OF THE GIVER (THE EXTENDED ARM OF GOD):

The office of the giver is often overlooked in the body of Christ, yet it wields power potent enough to grant one entrance to God’s kingdom.

Through the story of Cornelius, we see just how impactful the act of giving alms and giving to people can be. As a result of his acts of giving, the Lord sent salvation to his home.

Another noteworthy case is that of Dorcas, who was a giver. When she died, her giving to others bore fruit, and people brought the Apostle Peter to pray for her, and she was delivered from death.

There is something about giving to the poor, needy, or even to the work of God that brings blessings in ways you’d never expect.

Remember, the blessings you get by giving are not restricted to monetary returns. You can have your life restored like Dorcas or be given salvation like Cornelius.

When God pays you back, rest assured it will be something beyond your wildest imagination. Just like when you plant a seed and you can’t tell how much fruit it’d bear, so it is when you give in the name of the Lord.

6. THE OFFICE OF A RULER (KINGS/POLITICAL HEADS):

The office of a king is one recognized and approved by God. We learn that during the election of the first king, which the Bible records.

God made it clear about His hand on every king in the scripture which says the heart of a king is in the hands of the Lord.

We can also testify of God’s hand in rulership and how God uses kings to make a name for Himself. A brief study of the story of Pharaoh, whom the Lord raised to advertise His name, tells us that God is in charge and the driving force of everything above and beneath the earth.

Nebuchadnezzar, Saul, Ahasuerus, and King David were all elected by God, who established their kingdom to perfect His divine will per time and season.

God in His wisdom has made provision for kings and rulers who can greatly influence the lives of the people.

A leader can either lead people to God or astray, which makes that position a vital one to the body of Christ.

The Bible says when the righteous is on the throne, the people rejoice. This is a clear picture of the importance of the king or ruler.

It is our duty to pray for a godly ruler who will fulfill God’s plan for the people per time and season. It is the will of God that we prosper and be in good health, even as our soul prospers.

When a godly ruler is in charge, the body of Christ will thrive unhindered.

7. THE MERCIFUL:

This office entails living an empathetic Christian life. It is a ministry blessed by God and encompasses showing acts of kindness, love, and peace from a place of mercy and empathy.

For example, preaching the gospel and making an effort to win souls and save them from the doom of hell.

The Bible clearly informs us that the merciful will obtain mercy, and God directly calls this set of people blessed.

All of the offices listed above are approved by God, and each has a blessing attached.

I pray that the Lord reveals your calling, helps you to identify with it, and grants you grace to bear much fruit that will remain, in Jesus’ name.

Yet to give your life to Christ? Say this prayer and mean it from the depth of your heart.

“Lord Jesus, I repent of my sins and confess all my evil. I am sorry for all my sins, and I pray that you cleanse me by your blood and give me a new beginning.”

“I accept you as my Lord and Savior, and I pray that the power of sin is broken over my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Did you say that prayer? Congratulations! Heaven rejoices.
