1 Thessalonians 5:19 – Quench not the Spirit.
The Bible is explicit on this commandment and instruction: do not quench the Spirit of God.
The Holy Spirit is a being, a person God has gifted to teach us all things. (John 14:26)
The Holy Spirit is that friend, mother, sibling, and partner given to us by God to supervise our sojourn here on earth and escort us to the Father in heaven.
The Holy Spirit is sweet, gentle, loving, protective, thoughtful, and wise. This makes Him our best companion here on earth.
He is everything we need and more.
What does it mean to quench the spirit? It means to suppress or extinguish the impact of the Holy Spirit in your life.
When we resist, quench, or grieve the Holy Spirit, it is to our peril. When we don’t listen to Him and His leadership, it’s to our loss.
The Holy Spirit’s wisdom has been from the beginning of life itself. He is the Spirit of the One who knew you from the beginning of the world, the Spirit of the One who knew you right from your mother’s womb.
He is the Spirit of God, our Creator and Maker—the Spirit of the only true and ever-living God.
Why then do we disobey Him?
Why do we find it hard to keep His commandments even when they are clearly for our own good?
The enemy has done this. (Matthew 13:28)
Today, God is bringing you this message by the Spirit. He is bringing this command, instruction, and counsel to as many who are seeking to meet Him and make impact in their journey here on earth.
Quench not the Spirit.
Stop frustrating the Spirit of God in you.
Stop disobeying His leading.
Stop struggling with Him.
Do not grieve Him.
Protect your relationship with the Holy Spirit at all costs!
The Holy Spirit is the most selfless person you can ever meet. Everything He does, demands, and directs is always for our good.
Only when we obey and walk with Him will we be able to walk without stumbling. (Proverbs 3:6)
Only when we keep, value, and obey His words can we become who the Lord intends for us to be.
Do not quench the Spirit of God in you.
Obey His leading and submit to Him. Because while He is your friend, lover, and companion, He is also your God.
Trust Him too! There is no one else more deserving of your faith and trust.
Be an active partner with Him. When He nudges you to pray, go ahead and pray.
When He nudges you to do something, be a faithful and diligent servant and do it.
Whatever He says, no matter how shocking or absurd it may seem at the moment, just obey!
Protect your relationship with the Holy Spirit at all costs!
For some of you, His voice has been dulled and you can barely hear or feel Him. This is a telltale that you are headed towards a major crisis!
Because life without the Holy Spirit is truly a crisis! Treat your relationship with the Holy Spirit—it’s an emergency. Rush to the presence of God and cry for mercy and restoration.
Seek Him before it is too late. Promise to follow and do His will moving forward, and mean it from the depths of your heart.
Hold on to Him like your life depends on it—because it does.
I pray that the Lord grants you grace and mercy, restores His precious Holy Spirit, and helps you to protect your relationship with God’s greatest gift to mankind after His Son—the Holy Spirit.
Are you yet to give your life to Christ? Say this prayer and mean it from the depth of your heart:
“Lord Jesus, I repent from all my sins and confess I am a sinner. I ask for your mercy and forgiveness. I pray that you cleanse me with your precious blood.”
“I believe that you died for my sins, and I accept you as Lord and Savior. I pray that the gates of hell do not prevail against me, and I declare I am a child of God.”
If you said that prayer, congratulations! There is joy in heaven over your reconciliation with God.
