1 Corinthians 6:19 – What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

Many believers are so invested in taking care of their spiritual welfare that they fail to take care of the body God has given to them.

God has shown us how invaluable our human body is by telling us that it is his temple. Quickly picture the house of God. A place God dwells in his full glory. Your body.

Let the revelation of the house of God show you exactly how you must take care of your body. As children of God, even when we go to the physical representation of the church, we ensure it is in order, clean, and at its best at all times.

We strive to ensure that the church building, its premises and its environs are in good condition and tended to at all times because we believe that the presence of God dwells there.

If you treat the church in such a manner, why neglect the temple of God which is your body?

In today’s world, the most prestigious structures are built in the name of God. These structures were not only built with the best materials available but also with a maintenance system set up to ensure the standards are kept as the years go by.

In today’s blog entry, the Lord aims to remind us never to neglect our physical health/body. We must decide never to allow anything, including our pursuits for God to make his temple suffer unnecessarily.

We must remember that a false balance is an abomination to the LORD and a just balance is his delight. (Proverbs 11:1). The Lord would that everything be done decently and in order, and he loves the prosperity of our physical body as much as he treasures a healthy relationship with him.

The Lord wants us to be in good health and prosper as our soul prospers. (3 John 2)

Note – When our health suffers, or we look shabby and malnourished, it does not bring glory to God. When our health suffers, or our general appearance is unpalatable, it brings mockery to God.

We must employ the same pattern in taking care of our body as we do our relationship with God to be good stewards of the temple we carry.

Below are some ways we can take care of the temple of our body.

1. BY EATING HEALTHILY –

We must be conscious of what we eat and ensure we sustain a balanced diet with healthy meals that bring nutrients to the body and build the immune system. Bearing in mind that a dead man cannot praise God, neither can a sickly person serve the Lord in the manner he ought to be served.

We must be cautious not to eat things that damage the temple of God or take in toxins that impair the body.

2. BY PERSONAL HYGIENE –

God does not want his children to smell or look beastly.

We must take care of our bodies. Ensure we bathe regularly, take care of our teeth, shave, get haircuts and styles, dress properly and smell good while at it.

We must understand that we are ambassadors of God and the way we dress is the way we shall be addressed. We must ensure that we are at the best at all times as you never know what God does with you.

Note – The Holy Spirit does not dwell in a dirty place, including the temple of your body. Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

Ensure you and your environment are always clean to avoid hindering the presence of God.

3. INTERNAL HYGIENE –

Of course, not only should our bodies be preserved blameless, but we must ensure that our hearts are clean. Believe it or not, when you are not sanctified from the inside, no matter how clean or hygienic you are, the Holy Spirit cannot dwell in your temple.

We must ensure that as we take care of the outer parts of us, we do not neglect the inside and make sure that we are holy inside and outside.

1 Peter 1:15 -16 “But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” Kjv

1 Thessalonians 5:23 – “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” NIV

Internal hygiene will look like getting salvation, sanctification, and Holy Ghost baptism, along with the grace to sin no more. That will form the framework upon which other layers of work shall be built.

If you are yet to give your life to Christ, say this prayer,

“Lord Jesus, I am sorry for all my sins. I confess I am a sinner and I repent from them all. I pray that you give me a new beginning and I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Amen.”

4. WORKOUT AND EXERCISE

Another great way to be a good steward of the body God has given you is by constant exercise. We must make time to be fit and engage in exercises that help boost general body wellness.

We should also visit the doctors for regular check-ups and eat fruits or supplements that help overall body growth. When we do these things, not only will our body be in good condition but we will bring glory to the name of God and the Lord will delight in us.

I hope you have been blessed by today’s blog post! Add to the discussion and comment on more ways we can be better stewards of the body God has given us. I will be going through the comments!

God bless you.
