As true believers, God has primarily called us to himself. Matthew 4:19 – And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
He has called us to a life of fellowship, deep intimacy, holiness, righteousness, to do and obey his will. In short, he has called us to be like him.
Just like his disciples, he has called us to be with him, in order to learn as he teaches us deep things of the kingdom, with the aim of helping us grow our faith to the point where he can confidently send us out to fulfill his will for our lives, and draw more souls into his kingdom.
It is very important to note that many are called, but few are chosen. Matthew 22:14 – For many are called, but few are chosen.
What this implies is that while God has called many to himself, not many people are able to pass through the pruning season and qualify to be sent by God to fulfill their divine purpose.
In this study, we aim to expound scripturally, how to know when a believer has truly past his pruning season, and is ready to do exploits in whatever such person has been called into.
Note: it is important to note that a call doesn’t only navigate in ministry. As opposed to popular belief, God has called us to many things in HIM.
Matthew 6:33 – But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
That goes on to mean that in as much as he is the center of our life, and always comes first, there is no limit to the things he has in store for us in every other area of life.
Joshua 13:1 – Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the Lord said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.
Without wasting any more time, let us quickly go through the various ways we know that God has sent us in that endeavor, journey, or ministry!
1. THROUGH DIVINE PROVISION.
When God has sent us on a journey, be it ministerially, in marriage, career, or destiny, one fool-proof way to ascertain God’s trademark is the presence of divine Providence.
What this implies is the presence of open doors, lack of struggle, unmerited favour, etc. Just like our memory verse;
Luke 22:35 – “And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.”
When God sends us, though it seems like he has sent us on a wild goose chase, his provision goes before us and clears the way for us.
This theory is proven by the disciples, who left with nothing to preach the gospel but because it was God who called them to do his will, the provision to sustain them in their call was divinely provided.
We can also take notes from Abraham. When God called him, he was asked to Walk before God and be perfect.
Genesis 17:1 – And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
Despite leaving the home town he knew so well to an unknown land, God’s provision marked his presence and today the bible testifies Abraham as a man blessed in all things.
Genesis 24:1 – And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.
2. PEACE AND SMOOTH OPERATION:
2 Thessalonians 3:16 – Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.
One thing that tells of the presence of God is the presence of peace. Our God is the prince of peace, whenever we are sent by him, he ensures that his peace is with us.
This could imply the presence of God that makes for confidence and the accompanying power that gives for smooth operations in whatever it is we have been called to do.
Referring back to the memory verse of today’s study, we see Jesus asking his disciples if they lacked anything in the journey he called them to do and they replied negatively. Which shows us that anything he sends us to do, his peace and empowering grace for smooth operations is with us.
3. GROWTH, FRUITFULNESS AND MULTIPLICATION.
Exodus 23:26 – There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfill.
Another sure way of knowing that God is involved in that career path, ministry or marriage is the presence of growth, fruitfulness and multiplication.
Even when God sends you as a seed, he ensures that he gives you the increase as a signature of his presence and approval in whatever it is he has called you to.
1 Corinthians 3:6 – I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
He has promised that there will be no barren one in our midst, so when there is lack of progress, it is a sign to return to the drawing board and seek God afresh to know his position in whatever it is you are pursuing as a child of God.
4. WORD/PROMISE OF GOD:
When God sends you, he sends his word ahead of you.
It is very important to have a word of covenant from God, be it from the bible, revelation or prophecy. When you have a word from God, it stands as a shining light that guides your way.
It is also a sure way to fall back on the help of God when things go awry.
Jeremiah 1:12 – Then said the Lord unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.
When you have a word from God, you have the power to hold him accountable for his words to you, and the God we serve cannot ignore his word, infact, he values his word more than his name.
Bank on that when you feel you have not been sent and watch the king show up for you in ways no man can!
