A prayerful christian is a powerful Christian! In our last study, we discussed why we need to pray even when we don’t physically feel the urge or drive to pray. Click here
As a follow up to the last article, the Lord laid it in my heart to discuss the ways we can break out of that prayerlessness slump and move forward to a realm of effective and fervent prayers.
It is pertinent to note that our victory as believers is tied to our access to light, which is the word of God, and our ability to translate the blessings enclosed in the word of God through prayers.
Knowing this makes us understand the need to be always burning in prayers no matter the cost! If you are experiencing a fallback in your prayer life, or perhaps you suddenly can’t find the grace to pray yourself into God’s predetermined program of your life, here are some tips I believe will bless and turn your prayer life around for good.
1. GO TO THE ASSEMBLY OF THE BRETHREN:
Hebrews 10:25 – “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
Proverbs 27:17 – ” lron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”
One of the effective ways of pulling out of the state of prayerlessness is by joining the brethren of faith in every spiritual gathering in the house of God.
When you notice you don’t make headway in your personal prayer life, you must make a decision never to remain in spiritual stagnancy and pursue constant fellowshipping with the brethren.
As a child of God, when we constantly surround ourselves with people of like minds and faith, it’s less likely for us to fall off the radar. And even if we do, we trust that God will through one of his servants, restore us to the former glory.
What are we saying in a nutshell? Make it a priority to be in every gathering during your period of trial. Take intentional steps and the God that rewards those who diligently seek him, shall crown your efforts with the grace of fervent prayers and revival.
2. GRAB A PRAYER PARTNER:
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 ” ⁹Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. ¹⁰For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.”
Another effective way of stimulating your spirit for fervent, consistent and effectual prayers is by having a prayer partner.
Having a personal prayer life is important, but when you realize you are not meeting up to the standpoint of God in regards to praying always, it is a sign for you to seek out a brother or sister in faith, who will join forces with you in combating the devil’s attack on your prayer life.
This also helps in creating a pattern of commitment to prayers which will make a solid foundation and framework for a prosperous prayer life.
3. BE DISCIPLINED:
1 Corinthians 9:27a – “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection:”
Unfortunately, most cases of prayerlessness have nothing to do with the devil, our adversary. When a believer hasn’t brought his flesh to subjection, it brings about a natural laziness for everything spiritual.
As we know, the flesh only seeks for things of the world, forever standing as an obstacle to attaining a high level of spirituality and consistency. We must resolve to discipline the flesh and push into the realm of ceaseless prayers.
4. ASK FOR THE GRACE:
Matthew 7:7 – Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:“
Sometimes, the solution to lack of prayers is to go to the Lord in prayers! If you can sense your prayer life declining, a sure way of regaining your momentum is to take it to the Lord through prayers.
Our God answers prayers, no matter how little, God is ready to give anything we ask for in the name of Jesus. To some, it can be a one line of prayer, asking God for revival, and to others, this might look like an hour’s worth of prayers in search of revival.
Isaiah 65:24 ” And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.“
One thing is certain – God always answers prayers. Take advantage of this knowledge and tell the Lord to revive your spiritual and prayer life, I bet you, he will grant your petition.
Remember, John 14:14 – ” If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.“
5. GO ON A SPIRITUAL RETREAT/ STAY WITH GOD:
Psalm 40:1 – “I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.”
The reason for some people’s prayerlessness situation is the fact that they don’t spend time with God.
Remember, when the apostles received the gift of the Holy Spirit, they were in one accord, waiting for the master’s promise. They weren’t distracted with their business or frivolous activities.
Acts 2:1 – “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.”
For some people, in order to rekindle their altar of prayers, they must take out time from whatsoever engagements in order to properly and patiently seek the face of God.
When a Christian fails to spend quality time with the spirit of God, be it in prayers, or the word of God, such a believer will decline and eventually be empty and in dire need of a refilling that comes only from spending ample time with God.
For some people, this is a call to rearrange your schedule, place God as priority and diligently seek him in a retreat until you find and obtain grace to continue in your race to heaven and fulfillment.
6. EDIFY YOUR SPIRIT/ CONSUME SPIRITUAL MATERIALS:
Another great way of rekindling our prayer life is by consuming spiritual materials made available by God’s divine wisdom and provisions to men.
This form of revival comes through reading, meditating and gaining stamina through published articles, blog posts, books, audio or video content, etc.
Note: Be sure to seek God’s direction on what material he has ordained to bless your life before consumption.
As you go through these exercises and the many more God will reveal to you via the Holy Spirit, I pray that God’s power of effective prayers and supplication consumes, pursues and overtakes you in Jesus name!
